Welcome to NY, Day 4

Ready to start day 4!  So lucky that I have a best friend to share all of these awesome experiences with :).  The temperature got up to 88 today, so it was a hot day!

We walked down the street to Cafe Petisco!  It was a cute European style cafe that opened pretty early, for New York standards :).

Hubby ordered the breakfast burrito.

I ordered the huevos rancheros.  (Also, tried that Star Fruit!)

And of course, a side of bacon!

This place had a cool vibe, strong coffee, but the music was kind of on the loud side.

Since I had gotten sun burned the last couple of days, I decided to wear a visor!  Protect my face a little bit.  We headed to the Financial District to explore a little on our own as we didn't have plans until dinner time.

Look at One World Trade Center in the background, so beautiful!

Some cool buildings we saw on our walk!

Say cheese!

It was a cloudy day, so totally awesome for photo taking!

The 9/11 South pool.  It is about an acre in size and the names of those who perished are along the outside.

The sky and clouds were so beautiful today!

The North Memorial pool.

It was such an emotional experience to think that these pools used to have each of the Twin Towers.

We ended up doing the 9/11 Memorial Museum.  I won't go into too much detail, but I know that I will never go back to the museum.  It was like re-living that day and all of those emotions.  I realize that this was a very important part of our history, but looking back was very painful.

This was one of the coolest things that we saw in the museum, Spencer Finch, "No Day Shall Erase You from the Memory of Time," Virgil.  There are 2,923 squares and each one represents one of the victims of the 2001 attacks and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.  Each one is hand painted in a shade of blue to represent the sky on the fateful day.  This was truly amazing to see.

Vesey Street stair remnant; "The Survivors' Stairs"  This was the last above ground level structure from the World Trade Center Site.  These stairs served as an escape route for hundreds as they evcacuted 5 World Trade Center.

This was the room that we couldn't go in.  It had photos of the 2,983 people killed in the 2011 and 1993 attacks.  Even more painful, were the audio recordings that were heard of the family members describing those that were lost.  I will never be able to go into that room.  It was even sad, just to hear.

The National 9/11 Flag

One of the fire trucks that was on the 9/11 site.

The Last Column

The wall where you could write your thoughts.

I signed the wall from us!

Never Forget!

After leaving the museum, we needed a pick me up so we got a snack!

We went to Alfanoose, a nearby Middle Eastern restaurant.

We ordered the lentil soup, sambossa (ground lamb with onion and spices) and falafel.  It was all very delicious.  It is in our top two for falafel of all time!

On our walk back to the hotel, I finally found the sign that I didn't even know that existed!  We have been playing this song every morning while in NY and it was so fun to actually see this sign!  #W2NY #Swiftie

We got back to the hotel and cleaned up for our dinner.   This was one of the only places we had planned and reservations prior to leaving for NYC and we were really excited!

We went to Marc Forgione, in TriBeCa, an Iron Chef!

We took an Uber there, so we didn't have to worry about getting all sweaty prior to dinner.

I ordered a glass of bubbles and it was very refreshing after a long, emotional day!

We are pretty cute!

We got seated at our table and looked over the menu.  I already knew exactly what I wanted to order, but hubby had to look things over!

Complimentary potato rolls with butter!

Chili lobster with Texas Toast

Pinkie Pie had a stare down with the Lobster!

Smoked Goat Cheese Agnolotti

Hubby's fish dinner

Bell & Evans Chicken under a brick, with Yukon Pottao, broccoli rabe and butter pan drippings.

My claim check for my leftovers!

Complimentary dessert :)  Lemon raspberry yumminess!

No stop to NYC would be complete without trying to pay a visit to Miss Taylor Swift.  I was so sad she was in Europe for her tour, but at least I stopped by! :)

The Starbucks around the corner from her place.  We all know that she is a #Starbuckslover

We ended up walking south and caught a free bus to the Staten island Ferry!

This Ferry is FREE, yes, I said it FREE and in NY!!!

It is a commuter ferry that runs often and the views are breathtaking!

Lower Manhattan!

Our Lady of Liberty!

The sun was setting and it was beautiful!

Our view from the back of the ferry.  Manhattan on the left and Brooklyn on the right!

It really looks like One World Trade Center is glowing!  From this angle, you can see just how tall the building is!

After getting back from Staten Island, we walked a couple of blocks to the historic, Fraunces Tavern!  This is a national landmark and known as one of George Washington's headquarters!

We walked back up to the Lower East Side and went to Eastwood again!  They have such a great atmosphere and beers on tap! :)

A night view of One World Trade Center!

What a long day!  FitBit count: 23,810 steps or 9.98 Miles!  :)
