Welcome to NY, Day 3

Cheese!  We are ready for a day of adventure!  It cooled off today and only reached a high of 75 degrees, which was lovely to walk around in all day!

We started off at Cheeky sandwiches at our normal place... two eggs with salmon & cheese for him.

Eggs, cheese and gravy for me!

Next, we made our way to the Upper East Side, a place we hadn't been yet.

We visited a great museum, The Frick Collection, located on 5th Avenue.  This museum is in an old, beautiful mansion of Henry Clay Frick.  He specifically designed the house to be like a museum. I cannot believe that this was someone's private collection.  The collection includes Vermeer, Rembrandt, El Greco, and many others!  Also, Leighton's Flaming June painting is on loan from the Museo de Ponce, don't miss this!

I took a lot of photos of churches, the architecture was so stunning!

After touring the museum, we stopped by a Zagat Rated Turkish restaurant called: Uskudar.  This place used fresh ingredients and they are sourced from Turkey!  The two course meal was $20 each, which in my mind, was a bargain!  The food was so flavorful and the service was very good.

Complimentary homemade bread and olive oil with olives.

John's first course- Fasulye Pilakisi (kidney beans, with scalltions, tomatoes, garlic and spices).

My first course,Borek (spinach pie) with yogurt dipping sauce.

A glass of wine at lunch, is a must in New York.

Rice for our dish, it had a great almond flavor.

John had the Chicken Adana

I had the Chicken yogurt.

We did some more walking, can you believe this building has an Apple store in it? :)

Took a quick photo in front of the MET and made our way to the Neue Galerie.  It is also an old mansion and the staircases are beautiful.  I wish I could have taken photos; however, photography wasn't allowed.  This museum was three floors, but very good quality of a collection.  It was pretty busy, but we got to see The Woman in Gold, and it was amazing.  There is also German and Austrian art in the collection and there are some high quality pieces.

We made our way back to the Lower East Side and freshened up and got ready for dinner.

Cheers!

We went to a place a couple blocks away, Forgtmenot.  We ordered the chorizo nachos and shrimp.

The food was just average, but the service was awful.  I watched our server eating behind this pole, most of the time, while I was ready for another drink and also after I asked him for our bill.  It was a recommendation from one of the workers from Cheeky Sandwiches.  Although, we love Cheeky Sandwiches... we are forgetting about this restaurant!

Next, we went to the 169 bar.  It is known as a dive bar and it sure was!  It's known as a jazz bar and it has been there for over 100 years.  There are palm trees, a leopard print pool table, and the Flight of the Concords have visited the bar before!

This is the phone they used for us to pay for our drinks?  Seriously?!?!  :)

The place was a little too loud, so we walked up the street.

John found this bar called Eastwood.  It had tall ceilings, the windows open, hardwood floors and was really laid back.

Plus, this was their cash register!  I thought it was so awesome!  Their music, was played on a record player.  They had a variety of craft beers and wines.  The bartender was so cool he let us try a variety of things.  We ended up staying here for awhile and John even ended up playing some chess!

Had to order some snacks!

Grilled Cheese Pita

Falafel!

We got back to our hotel and settled in for the night.

FitBit count: 19.515 or 8.15 miles.  A "slow" day in NYC.
